Dedham Water Trail Receives National Recreation Trail Designation


July 21, 2014 - The Town of Dedham today announced that the Dedham Water Trail has been designated a National Recreational Trail by the United States Department of the Interior Secretary Sally Jewel. National Recreational Trails are part of a national system of trails and greenways on water and over land combining nature, wildlife, outdoor activity and history.

Governor’s Administration Announces Completion of Fishing and Boating Access Project in Dedham


July 30, 2013 - Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rick Sullivan announced the completion of 18 Massachusetts fishing and boating access projects. Including the Dolan Center Canoe Launch at 269 Common Street in Dedham. This canoe launch is the hub for the Water Trail.

Stand-up Paddleboarding now one of the fastest growing water sports


May 30, 2013 - Businesses like LL Bean in Dedham and Mansfield are offering comprehensive stand-up paddleboarding programs. The outlets are holding an introduction to stand-up paddleboarding class on June 29, July 27, and Aug. 24 in the Dolan Center in Dedham. The three-hour course will give participants an overview of the history of the sport, water safety, equipment, launching, transportation, and stroke techniques.

$35K grant to help Dedham build ‘water trail’ along Charles River


August 20, 2012 - With a $35,251 state grant secured, Dedham can begin construction on a canoe and kayak water trail along the Charles River. As part of Gov. Deval Patrick’s commitment to the environment, the Department of Conservation and Recreation recently awarded $1.17 million in grants to local communities to fund 41 trail projects. Dedham was awarded $35,251 to fund the water trail, which is set to open late spring or early summer of next year.

Planners aiming to cluster trails


June 15, 2012 - A regional planning agency is working to expand networks of pedestrian and bike trails in 13 Greater Boston communities, including Dedham, Westwood, and Quincy, to encourage more people to travel via two legs or two wheels.

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council is looking to connect clusters of communities with trails so that people might be able to safely pedal or walk from their homes to locations they need to go regularly, such as their workplaces.
